Cody Beck
Been playing games for 5-6 years and running them for the last 3-4 years.
Describe yourself and your play style: “I run games with an eye toward player enjoyment first, roleplay second, and combat last. My stories are born from tongue-in-cheek concepts and genre send-ups, always with a twist. I try to do something new with every session, and I'm a big fan of the Rule of Cool. I see myself less as a GameMaster(TM) and more as a collaborator with a rulebook: I always appreciate players willing to put their mark on the worlds we build together. Queer and trans inclusion at my table is a priority for me. I do not allow sexual assault or explicit sexual acts to be played at my table. While alcohol is welcome at my table, I humbly request that my players refrain from consuming weed/THC before or during play.”
Tell us about your favorite NPC to run: Saldana was a primary NPC in the first D&D campaign I ever ran to completion. Initially intended as an antagonist for the first half of the campaign, my players decimated all my plans immediately upon meeting her by taking her out for drinks and becoming her best friend. After betraying the group in the midseason finale, she was defeated in spectacular fashion when a well-placed Thunderwave spell threw her under the wheels of a moving carriage. Running Saldana taught me a lot of fundamental lessons about DMing on my feet and adjusting expectations when players come into contact with a world. Plus I played her with an Irish accent, which has turned into The Voice I use for any badass woman in a game.
