Hey, I'm Ben Silverio

Rachel Granda-Gluski 0:06

I'm Rachel Granda Gluski

Ansel Burch 0:07

And I'm Ansel Burch

Ben Silverio 0:08

and it's Time 2 Party

Ansel Burch 0:13

This month's episodes on Kate and Leopold were recorded on April 30 23. We don't give medical advice Please drink responsibly.

Ben Silverio 0:24

Illusions Ansel.

Marc Maron does that too, with his cats, right. I think one of his catchphrases was like Boomer lives, but like Boomer died like deer while ago. Actually, I think a number of his pets have died since his podcast started.

Ansel Burch 0:59

So he's been podcasting for a while. It's true.

Ben Silverio 1:02

He's also had a lot of pets. Hey, party people. Welcome back to the podcast. Thank you for joining us. Hope you're in for a good time.

Ansel Burch 1:14

There it is. That's the catch. There it is. That's the catch phrase keep that Yeah. We're still working on catch. Yeah, you know,

Rachel Granda-Gluski 1:21

not know what I was getting into.

Ansel Burch 1:24

A good time funds out there.

Ben Silverio 1:25

Yeah, you you start going back to some old favorites. The classics. Yes.

Ansel Burch 1:33

It's about time after all.

Ben Silverio 1:34

Haha. This month we are I was gonna see medieval and that's not right. We're getting

Rachel Granda-Gluski 1:42

what's the rope? Torian. Yeah, well, you

Ben Silverio 1:45

know what they say? If it's not broke, don't fix it

Rachel Granda-Gluski 1:57

just happened to realize it on this shakes a lot of terrible puns and so I'm really good at the dead. Think he's more shocked now if he actually gives me a laugh with one. stare at him. Okay,

Ansel Burch 2:13

so now we know it's a challenge.

Ben Silverio 2:15

Right? Challenge accepted. This month, we are joined. Actually, you know what, Ansel, this is? Your very good friend. Why don't you give the pomp and circumstances

Ansel Burch 2:26

that might? Well, we are joined by my very good friend. We've been together for God. Ages. What? What did we figure out 11 years now?

Rachel Granda-Gluski 2:36

We've met in? Well, I mean, we met in 2010. But you were mean. And then I think we actually started speaking in 2011.

Ansel Burch 2:51

Okay, yeah. So yeah, about that. 1112 years, we've been friends and man, we were part of each other's weddings. We were.

Rachel Granda-Gluski 3:00

Yeah, that's that's how we bring the time five years to remember that I didn't attend

Ansel Burch 3:06

his wedding. Just seems like you ought to have been, you know,

Rachel Granda-Gluski 3:09

to be we're actually at mine. Rachel.

Ansel Burch 3:13

Rachel has been on some amazing shows. Do you want to talk about any of them here?

Rachel Granda-Gluski 3:18

I've been on locked into vacancy. I did Starlight radio dreams. I've done some other one offs. Those names are escaping me. Um, I did not a podcast but a like live streamed drinking game drunkenly Ever After where we drank along with your favorite Disney movies and got very intoxicated. That was good time.

Ben Silverio 3:41

So I was told that you're going to pick a Disney movie for this. And then you did really any good ones on? I know that's why I was curious when the Ansel said that

Rachel Granda-Gluski 3:49

I was just like like, I have a drinking game pre prepared for every single animated Disney movie and some of the sequels cool um some of them have time for and none of them have time travel on them. None of them is

Ansel Burch 4:01

animated. It is bananas that there are somehow

Rachel Granda-Gluski 4:05

some have clocks in them like Great Mouse Detective is you know really clock centric. So depressing and Hans my childhood, but one of the best Disney villain songs Yes, true. I also got to say bye Felicia during our episode because the cat's name is

Ben Silverio 4:21

I did read a theory once that the genie from Aladdin as a time traveler.

Rachel Granda-Gluski 4:26

Or that yeah, possibly counted. Yeah.

Ansel Burch 4:30

Next episode next time we

Rachel Granda-Gluski 4:32

come back or I could just provide I want it would be fun to kind of compare the game I created the one you guys create and see how they line up.

Ansel Burch 4:40

Our rules are just bombed. There's a fun

Rachel Granda-Gluski 4:43

for some of our Disney roles were bonkers for Fantasia. One of the rules that will get you fucked up in that game. Playing is drink every time you see a but

Ben Silverio 4:53

yeah, lots of bugs.

Rachel Granda-Gluski 4:54

So many bugs. There are cherub butts. There are robots there are dinosaur by It's there are Centaur and Pegasus butts there are Mickey butts

Ben Silverio 5:06

to the Gators count when you're just seeing

Rachel Granda-Gluski 5:09

we counted a lot of animals there are everything in the and everybody got it but they got but

Ben Silverio 5:15

like the gator right the button would be under the tail and you're just seeing the tail mostly right?

Rachel Granda-Gluski 5:20

Yeah, so maybe we don't count either. Definitely kind of the hippos we kind of the ostriches we counted the cherubs, the Pegasus conducted tours. I think a different rule was drink whenever you see the conduct, okay. Um, but yeah, drinking whenever you see a bud was so bad.

Ben Silverio 5:39

I made

Rachel Granda-Gluski 5:40

them take a break. One I was like, No more drinking, you guys. Here's the water for this song. losing it, and we still have like two things. 40 more minutes left. And you are?

Ben Silverio 5:56

Can we just record us playing this game? Like, we can put on Fantasia Right? Like,

Rachel Granda-Gluski 6:01

it's a good drinking game. It will. That one was one of the best ones because we like my friend Nick and had gotten drunk watched the movie and then made up the rules for days because there wasn't like any any type of pre made games to even like pull from the other one that will get you fucked up as you need one rule or play the drinking game for bolt. Oh, drink every time a dog barks

Ben Silverio 6:26

Oh my God, you will die. Similar similar thing for High School Musical drink every time they say Wildcat Oh god. Yep.

Rachel Granda-Gluski 6:35

Yeah, don't drink every time a dog barks, you'll die.

Ansel Burch 6:39

So in case you haven't figured it out this first episode, we're going to be designing a drinking and smoking game to go along with the with this month's movie, which is

Rachel Granda-Gluski 6:48

Kate Leopold. Yeah. So I haven't seen since like college.

Ben Silverio 6:53

So Rachel, why did you pick Kate Leopold? Um, I

Rachel Granda-Gluski 6:56

picked Kate Leopold, because I am typically a sucker for the classic 90s and 2000s rom com. Oh, this one did not even sure very well.

Ben Silverio 7:08

So few of them do. Yeah,

Rachel Granda-Gluski 7:11

it was but you know, seeing a young Hugh Jackman was nice.

Ansel Burch 7:17

Worth the price of admission. Yeah.

Rachel Granda-Gluski 7:19

Yeah. It was a good time. But I spent a lot of time watching this will be going oh, I don't remember that. Blocked a lot of it out. Yeah.

Ben Silverio 7:29

I just rewatched Idiocracy. And they dropped the F slur and the AR slur so much. It's a lot of the movies dropped the Arcelor a lot. Yeah. And I just it never registered to me because it was just like, you know, part of the vernacular. I think it's just background noise for so long. Yeah. But now I hear it. It's just like, What the fuck, bro?

Rachel Granda-Gluski 7:55

Yeah, I'm just a lot of the language a lot. Just her boss is so like, an HR nightmare.

Ben Silverio 8:04

Correct. We will get into that in the second episode. But first suggestion. Oh, great. Well, we'll get into that in a second. For those of you out there who don't know about Katie Leopold, our good friends at IMDB. Tell us an English Duke from 1876 is inadvertently dragged to modern day New York, where he falls for a plucky advertising executive. I mean, that's pretty accurate, right? That happens, Kate that they call her plucky. That was the word back then.

Ansel Burch 8:34

Though. love a love a plucky actor, the 90s did.

Ben Silverio 8:38

Ansel would you say your friend Rachel is plucky

Ansel Burch 8:42

not to her face

Ben Silverio 8:49

so yeah, let's jump right into it. First rule, ritual one you go first.

Rachel Granda-Gluski 8:54

I'm one of the ones that came up to me was just every time Leopold encounters a new piece of technology.

Ben Silverio 9:00

I think we're the same person. And that's literally my first.

Ansel Burch 9:08

The Singularity has happened.

Ben Silverio 9:08

Take a drink every time Leopold is startled or curious by future tech. Yeah,

Ansel Burch 9:13

I say we lean into this and see how far it takes us.

Ben Silverio 9:16

Okay. What's your second rule?

Rachel Granda-Gluski 9:19

My second rule is whenever JJ does something super sexist or egotistical. Okay, she has a lot of those moments.

Ben Silverio 9:26

He does. That is correct. it diverges there. Because my second rule kind of goes with the first rule. Take a drink every time you are startled by outdated tech. Oh, so like palm pilots for one?

Rachel Granda-Gluski 9:40

That's Oh, that's a good one. Yeah, the Palm Pilot

Ben Silverio 9:44

just going through this movie and seeing all these things just like oh, hey, that sounds sick anymore. Oh, that's nothing

Rachel Granda-Gluski 9:48

at all have the corded phones. Yeah,

Ben Silverio 9:51

but even the cell phones or just even cell

Rachel Granda-Gluski 9:55

phones. The computers were hilarious.

Ben Silverio 10:00

I'm seeing Kate was talking about OS nine something.

Ansel Burch 10:05

Yeah, that's intense. Alright, so every time you're shocked by outdated Tech,

Rachel Granda-Gluski 10:11

I also included a rule for anytime Leopold does something old fashioned but in the modern time

Ben Silverio 10:17

like that. He does that a lot. It was a beginning.

Rachel Granda-Gluski 10:20

Oh, yeah, it's a SIP rule because get really drunk otherwise. I mean even does it pretty continuously I keep thinking of the scene where he's in the bar with Charlie's friends. And he's just like, dazzling them with like, oh, he takes the drinks from her. He's just as like very educated and charming and old, like the Louvre. Yeah, the Louvre and, and so like, just his like, classic politeness. And then when he demonstrates it at the dinners and stuff where he stands whenever the woman gets hot.

Ben Silverio 10:54

It reminded me of interesting parallels with the movie blast from the past. I think there'll be a good double feature for this because Brendan Frazier's character is also out of time and is like, annoyingly, she silver stones character with all his politeness, but from like the 1950s.

Rachel Granda-Gluski 11:11

And then you have kind of the reverse opposite of Pleasantville where they go back in time, and

Ben Silverio 11:16

well, technically, it's not back in time there. Yeah.

Rachel Granda-Gluski 11:20

But it's not technically time travel. Because yeah, it'd be like, but yeah, but they definitely alarm them with their like, modern colloquialism in the 50s settings feels

Ansel Burch 11:33

like an important corollary to the one true rule of time travel, which is, you can't travel the past because everything is gross. And you can't travel to the future because you are gross, right?

Ben Silverio 11:45

Yeah. Unless you're a white male, then you're fine. You're fine. Yeah, either way.

Ansel Burch 11:53

It's still be gross, but you can you can figure out the shower. Sure.

Ben Silverio 11:57

That's why I like having people of color and women on this show so that we can both gang up on Ansel,

Ansel Burch 12:02

please do we deserve

Rachel Granda-Gluski 12:03

it? No, I definitely wrote, wrote in my notes at the end, my husband came home as I was finishing this movie. And he was like, how's it going? And I just shout because I had headphones on and just shout she gave a penicillin for him.

Which is not a choice I would make. No, I

Ben Silverio 12:26

do want to get into that in the second episode. Because yeah, what a choice choice. Speaking of Kate, my third rule is take a drink every time Kate is mean to Leo.

Rachel Granda-Gluski 12:41

That's a good one.

Ben Silverio 12:42

Like, bro, I know you're from New York and New Yorkers suck but at least be

Rachel Granda-Gluski 12:49

hard into making her that like, abrasive career trope to career girl trope. They just Yeah. I just really liked though that like Meg Ryan was in her 40, like late 40s When they shot this and Hugh Jackman is actually considerably younger than her. Oh, really? Yeah, he was only like, like, 3940 and I think 4849 So it's nice to see a movie starring an older woman. Yeah, definitely. Especially a romance. That's nice. Yes, I'll give him that. My fourth rule was you could take a either a drink or a shot depending on how dangerous a game you feel like playing every time steward rambles about time.

Ben Silverio 13:31

Similarly, my fourth rule is take a hit whenever someone doesn't believe him about time travel.

Rachel Granda-Gluski 13:37

That's a good one. Until we find Gretchen Yeah, he believes him. Who always looks like she was on the

Ben Silverio 13:47

verge of tears. Yes, she did. Like when she was like, I believe you I thought she was gonna break down start crying

Rachel Granda-Gluski 13:54

when she was reading outside of the psychiatrists off office. She just had very like wet eyes. And I was like, Oh, I thought she was a patient until I figured that she was

Ben Silverio 14:05

like, Oh no, definitely could have blended in with the patient.

Rachel Granda-Gluski 14:10

Maybe that's like they would have locked you up for melancholia back in the day, ma'am. Um, my fifth rule was finish your drink when Kate's dress suddenly grew as a tray and due to time travel with dance. floors that folded her her costume did a complete the only costume that got affected by time change.

Ben Silverio 14:35

Yep. Because Stewart had one of that. Where did he get the clothes when he got back there?

Rachel Granda-Gluski 14:40

Why Billy goodwill. I think he dressed like that before he went, Oh, I think he was like I'm going back to this year. Or he like stole them off somebody but he did have his little goggles still. He had his little camera. So I think he kind of I feel like he dressed he got ready.

Ben Silverio 14:58

Before going. He didn't go there. mug someone and

Rachel Granda-Gluski 15:01

go there and show up naked like in The Terminator and how to steal somebody's clothes. No, he like he like trying to shop costume shop and purchase them things and I mean fit very well. And then he was like Well, I'm going

Ben Silverio 15:13

being from New York I'll bet he went to like a Broadway yard sale or something. Yeah, there you go,

Rachel Granda-Gluski 15:18

picked up some stuff that just was cheap and hopped off.

Ben Silverio 15:24

One time I was in New York at the same time as the Broadway flea market. And I wanted to go because both Kelsey Grammer and David Hyde Pierce were on Broadway at the time. So they both signed a script from Frasier and I wanted to go bid on it and it went pretty quick. Oh, I'm

Ansel Burch 15:40

sure. Ah, do we have any more rules?

Ben Silverio 15:46

That was my last one. I have one more. All right, perfect. It's a shot rule. Okay. As we tend to do as I tend to do here, I like to take shot out of respect for someone in this movie, I, I wrote down take a shot for Viola Davis. There are so many actors that you will recognize in this movie as actual stars now, yeah, but Viola Davis has got to be the biggest, ya know, like I was going back and forth between Viola Davis and Kristen Shaw.

Rachel Granda-Gluski 16:21

I think it's worse because dead Viola Davis is like a nameless character. She she doesn't have a name in the credits.

Ben Silverio 16:27

Now she has an Oscar.

Ansel Burch 16:30

She put in the time to get that Oscar like Viola has been through some stuff. Absolutely.

Rachel Granda-Gluski 16:37

I really want to read her memoir. It's one of the few like, I normally don't care about memoirs, specifically celebrity memoirs. But I really like to read her as I've heard. It's amazing.

Ben Silverio 16:50

Did she do the audiobook? Yes, she held audiobooks. Nice, love good audio. How

Ansel Burch 16:55

would it not be? You know, it

Ben Silverio 16:56

was good audiobooks. Admiral Janeway. I listened. She's got a good voice for that. I listened to the audiobook for Nosferatu. The Joe Hill book. Yeah, narrates that.

Rachel Granda-Gluski 17:10

Maybe I'll listen to that. I have a copy of it. I keep meaning to read it at Christmas. And then I keep getting like distracted whenever I get a copy for years. Like give me an Narita?

Ben Silverio 17:22

Yeah, it's pretty good. I enjoyed it. It's also kind of funny because another Star Trek alum plays the main villain. Yeah. TV show Quinto?

Rachel Granda-Gluski 17:32

Yep.

Ansel Burch 17:34

Oh, really? All right, well, let's take it home.

Ben Silverio 17:40

Yeah, so that does it for our drinking and smoking roles. I feel like we keep forgetting to say that you don't have to drink alcohol.

Ansel Burch 17:51

But it has been a little while since we made a big point of that. Yeah.

Ben Silverio 17:53

Yeah. Feel free to drink whatever you want. However much you want. We're not going to pressure you. We just want you to have a good time.

Ansel Burch 17:59

Yeah, I have found it equally effective to just to just point at the television go, Hey,

Ben Silverio 18:07

that works works. Yes. Alternatively, you can do whatever hard drugs you want with these rules.

Ansel Burch 18:14

We didn't tell you to but you could it's

Ben Silverio 18:17

yeah, we're not gonna stop you. We hear a time to party advocate for partying however you want.

Ansel Burch 18:25

But hopefully, we're not doctors safely. Yeah, you know, we

Ben Silverio 18:28

don't want you to die or anything.

Ansel Burch 18:30

Yeah, please, please, please. Because we need your listener numbers we have so few listener numbers. Can't afford any attrition within the listener base.

Ben Silverio 18:41

We need to all of you this is a team effort.

Rachel Granda-Gluski 18:44

So drink response to tell your friends get more people on drugs responsibly.

Ben Silverio 18:49

While you go off to find drugs to do responsibly, you could find us on the internet. I'm at BCL Vario 20 on Instagram, Twitter and hive.

Rachel Granda-Gluski 18:57

I'm at Orion has Moxie mo X ie at because I forget that there are other ways to spell it on Instagram. And then I have a book talk which is completely different. And only talks about books is probably not for this show. It is I do enjoy it. What's your what's your handle on a wandering read? That's my book.

Ansel Burch 19:19

I endorse it. Or

Ben Silverio 19:20

Ed?

Rachel Granda-Gluski 19:22

No ar e ad. I figure it's this is a book because I go a little free library hunting a lot. So those are fun. It's a lot of videos of me like walking Chicago closing little free library doors and occasionally, epically failing at opening

Ansel Burch 19:41

those are the best ones I'm not gonna lie one

Rachel Granda-Gluski 19:42

that was swollen shut and you can just hear me like quietly grunting in the quiet quite fun because I can't get the door.

Ansel Burch 19:52

I am at indecision just on Twitter and at the Indecision is on Instagram Special thanks to April Meralco for our podcast art and To Marlin longest of Marlin and the shakes for our amazing theme song. This has been an indecision list production head on over to indecision list.com/time to party to check out all of our show notes and transcripts of episodes.

Ben Silverio 20:14

You can join the conversation by using the hashtag time to party that is time the number two party

Ansel Burch 20:19

or hashtag time the number two party all spelled out thanks to Warwick

Ben Silverio 20:29

Of course you would join us next week when we review Kate and Leopold and go into all of the you know, historical inaccuracies so many the I was gonna say the the ABS but like you could just say it you could but like how often do you see as ABS the move it's implied. Exactly. You see a lot

Rachel Granda-Gluski 20:57

of that like budgeting chest hair.

Ben Silverio 20:59

Yes. There's a lot of Hugh Jackman 10 But not this was before he was the huge Jackman so he was still guest on was he he was guest on in the Australian production Yes, soundtracks. Great. All right. I remember downloading those recordings off of limewater

Rachel Granda-Gluski 21:24

Oh, now that is time travel. There

Ben Silverio 21:27

we go. There it is. Take a drink. Yes, well, while we go through our Limewire playlists need you all to remember to be excellent to each other

Rachel Granda-Gluski 21:39
