Like that sounds more medieval right?
Nicole Keating 0:23
A little bit, I thought it was
Ansel Burch 0:25
Baroque, but sure,
Ben Silverio 0:27
well, you know, they say, if it's not Baroque, don't fix it. You, you threw that one right up
Ansel Burch 0:33
Which means, if it is Baroque, fuck that shit up
Nicole Keating 0:35
If it's baroque mash it and smash it baby. Rib it and rip it.
Ansel Burch 0:42
it's in the public domain so.
Ben Silverio 0:45

Ben Silverio 1:03
Is that not in the? Is that not free? Game?

Nicole Keating 1:59
but we are talking about an a wonderful movie today. And that's why I've been so excited all day.
Ben Silverio 2:05
Man, when when Nicole said that this was a movie that she wanted to do. I was just like, damn, I haven't thought of this movie in forever,
Ansel Burch 2:11
Same, it's on the list. We just haven't really haven't really talked about it. So that's exciting.
Nicole Keating 2:16
It has been I believe, almost exactly 19 years since I've seen this movie last. And you know what, I think I'll give a little bit of this information up top because I'll probably reference it again later. We are talking about a movie that inspired a movie that I wrote when I was in high school.
Ansel Burch 2:38
Oh,
Nicole Keating 2:39
Two of my friends and I collaborated to write an epic called Warrior Pope. That was sort of a parody satire in the vein of like a min and tight style. Sure, but of the Lord of the Rings type movies. Now we also have you know, Game of Thrones.
Ansel Burch 2:55
So you've always been this way.
Nicole Keating 2:57
Oh, yes. Actually, one of my notes is I can't remember what it's in reference to but it's like something something something because I've always been the same. In this episode. Um, and one of the references one of the like, cultural references that we parodied was this movie. So, as I was watching it, I was like, oh my god, I remember this literally, I took this scene and wrote it into this other movie. And I will tell you what some of those things are as we go, I love it. But know that this I was heavily artistically influenced by this movie.
Ansel Burch 3:34
this is a deep part of your psyche.
Nicole Keating 3:38
But as it's been 19 years I don't quite remember I didn't quite remember all the details upon rewatch,
Ben Silverio 3:44
right. Likewise, I had not seen this movie in a long time. I don't I can't even tell you how many years it's been but.
Ansel Burch 3:52
So for the folks at home who may not have seen it for 19 years exactly the synopsis,
Ben Silverio 3:56
right? Well, first of all, we're talking Yeah, I
Nicole Keating 3:59
was gonna I was I was burying the lede there, babies
Ben Silverio 4:02
Right. First of all, we are talking about the Disney classic. A kid in King Arthur's Court.
Nicole Keating 4:10
Singing the theme from the movie.
Ansel Burch 4:15
Did they reuse that music for men and tights? Did it bugged me the whole time?
Nicole Keating 4:23
It's very possible.
Ben Silverio 4:25
Entirely possible
Nicole Keating 4:25
It's just as just as goofy but not as intentional.
Ben Silverio 4:31
Before before we get into the synopsis, can you guess what the tagline for this movie was?
Nicole Keating 4:36
Oh. Batter up
Ansel Burch 4:42
It's that kid from Angels in the Outfield.
Ben Silverio 4:45
Joust do it. Laughing
phenomenal
Ansel Burch 4:55
God damn it
Nicole Keating 4:55
I had to laugh off mic for that
I want that as a tattoo.
Ansel Burch 4:55
That's horrific.
Ben Silverio 5:06
do it just do it. Wow. Wow. Yes. All right listeners if you don't remember a kitten, King Arthur's Court. Here's what our good friends at IMDb tell us. A little league player is sent back into the medieval times where he was given the task of saving Camelot. I'm sure that happens.
Nicole Keating 5:26
Yeah. That's a good logline. Yeah, that does happen.
Ansel Burch 5:31
I would like to pick a tiny nit, as a person who went to school for medieval history. No, he fucking didn't. Arthur is at best pre medieval.
Nicole Keating 5:45
Yes, there's, there are. I mean, the historical inaccuracies I feel like we don't even I
Ansel Burch 5:51
don't even need to say I don't even need to say
Ben Silverio 5:53
sure. This isn't just like what the first episode is about now. All the historical inaccuracies.
Ansel Burch 5:59
right, every time you notice a tunic that is way too short or way too long. Take a shot.
Nicole Keating 6:05
Oh my god,
Ansel Burch 6:06
you'd die, you'd die.
Nicole Keating 6:07
Well, yeah, this we'll get into it when we get into the drinking game rules. Yeah.
Ben Silverio 6:13
Speaking of the drinking game, drinking smoking game, is what we do on our first episode each month. We want to give you a good reason to revisit the movie or watch it first time. But you know if no judgment either way, but you know, I feel like this. This movie was a part of a lot of people's childhood.
Ansel Burch 6:33
Yeah. So you can drink, you can smoke, you could take a sip of water, you could point at the TV and go hey. You know whatever, whatever works for you
Nicole Keating 6:41
take a sip of tea perhaps
Ansel Burch 6:43
Oh,
Nicole Keating 6:44
this is this movie feels if this is a this is a real feel good film. And I think this definitely is is a film that I am calling it a film mine. It deserves that
Ansel Burch 6:57
was shot on film.
Nicole Keating 7:00
It was indeed shot on film. And I just seems like something maybe on a Sunday. You cozy up with your tea and your extraordinary level of blankets and watch this and just smile for hours which is essentially what I did.
Ansel Burch 7:13
I would like to ask two questions. One is what drink would you pair this movie with?
Ben Silverio 7:21
Okay. Well, I mean, Calvin can't drink it. But he probably drank it back then. Mead. Right. I feel like I don't have enough meat in my everyday life.
Ansel Burch 7:34
I will tell you that's true. And I can also tell you where to get some. Yeah, mead is a good choice.
Nicole Keating 7:41
I was also probably going to say a mead something you'd get something you'd get at a at a Ren Faire perhaps though usually in a Ren Faire I drink bloody marys so
Ansel Burch 7:52
but it's cool those vitamins and minerals. Yeah,
Nicole Keating 7:54
maybe maybe a Mead or or a red wine. Something that feels red wine and like just like a fancy cup
Ben Silverio 8:00
or a horn
Nicole Keating 8:01
or perhaps a horn. Some kind of special I feel like the drink is less important than the glass. Yeah.
Ansel Burch 8:08
Well, that was gonna be my next question is what should you drink it out of fancy glass.
Nicole Keating 8:12
I think I'm gonna go with the Cersei Lannister red wine and a chalice that might be my choice. For this one.
Ben Silverio 8:19
I've always wanted to drink out of a horn. Ooh, yeah.
Ansel Burch 8:21
So mead out of a horn. Yeah, well done. You like
Nicole Keating 8:25
it. So I don't know about you. But I would strongly recommend watching the movie the way I did, which is smoking a bowl up top. And now I was doing my own personal rewatch. I watch it during the day and as an elder millennial, I can't drink during the day or I will fall asleep immediately. I smoked the bowl and this was a wonderful romp through the past. Here's some time in history.
Ansel Burch 8:51
So your your first smoking rule is before you start the film when you
Nicole Keating 8:55
start the film just smokeable love it. Okay, um,
Ben Silverio 8:59
I don't typically drop smoking rules, but I do have one. So my smoking rule is to take a hit for the four things because the last one is "let her rip"
Nicole Keating 9:11
yeah, let her rip
Ben Silverio 9:15
yes, the gag happens three times.
Nicole Keating 9:17
Because rule of threes Yeah, right. Yeah, it has to it has to happen come full circle or full triangle.
Ansel Burch 9:23
And you'll know it when you when you see it. Absolutely. Oh, yes.
Nicole Keating 9:27
Um, my first rule that you either take a sip or take a hit. This is the horse girl rule. You take a sip or a hit, and then on the outbreath where you would normally blow out the smoke or say "ahhhh" after taking a large drink. You do a little (whinny noise" a little whinny
Ansel Burch 9:49
Oh okay, okay. What what is the trigger for our whinny drink or smoke
Nicole Keating 9:58
that is? Oh, I'm sorry. Alright, I skipped that part. Every time someone gets on a horse, okay, okay, so none of the off of the horse, not just when you see a horse,
Ben Silverio 10:07
not when someone gets knocked off a horse. Exactly, exactly. That's too much. Let's do it. That happens a lot. Yeah, yeah. Um, my first drinking rule is take a drink whenever Calvin uses future tech. So, flashlights,
Ansel Burch 10:23
CD player and player right? That CD player brings back memories CD player Ex Machina,
Ben Silverio 10:28
I definitely had that CD player that was that was probably didn't do the things that his does. Because I remember the lasers. That's probably why I wear glasses now. It really had that. Yeah, that's how CD players work.
Ansel Burch 10:42
No,
Ben Silverio 10:43
it wasn't, it definitely wasn't that strong. You can see it when you look into it.
Ansel Burch 10:49
But I don't remember ever having a CD player that would that the laser would allow you to look at it. Like the light will not work when the CD player is open. Yeah, and it definitely isn't that kind of laser
Ben Silverio 11:01
definitely not that powerful.
Nicole Keating 11:02
Mine is sort of the opposite. My next one is sort of the opposite of that you can take a sip or a hit every time a medieval person uses one of his phrases, right? Ah, every time they repeat a phrase that he uses. Take a sip or hit.
Ben Silverio 11:21
Roll take a drink when Katie specifically Katie tries something from Calvin's time, like skating or biking, or the slang. Cuz it gets to a point where she and her father really start using it a lot. Yeah,
Nicole Keating 11:36
they love it.
Ansel Burch 11:38
Valley speak.
Nicole Keating 11:40
I agree. I only have one more rule because this is a short movie. You probably shouldn't be drinking too much in 90 minutes. But finish your drink when the Black Knight reveals himself.
Ben Silverio 11:52
Ah huh. I also only have one more rule.
Ansel Burch 11:57
Oh, wow.
This is a short movie
Ben Silverio 11:59
It's a short movie. And as we like to do here on Time 2 Party we like to give proper respect. So I would like to offer up a shot for Benoit Blanc, aka
Ansel Burch 12:10
Daniel Craig.
Nicole Keating 12:11
Yes, yes. 100%
Ben Silverio 12:13
Because when I realized he was in this movie, I was just like, What?
Ansel Burch 12:16
What?
Nicole Keating 12:17
I had also forgotten he was in this movie. Do you mean his first appearance, take a shot upon his first appearance or anytime,
Ben Silverio 12:23
whatever you want
Ansel Burch 12:23
just out of respect whenever you want. As the spirit moves, you
Nicole Keating 12:27
Pour one down the gullet for Daniel Craig. Absolutely.
Ben Silverio 12:30
He deserves it.
Nicole Keating 12:31
He deserves
Ben Silverio 12:32
it. Also, I like how I named him as Benoit Blanc. Rather than any other character.
Ansel Burch 12:36
Not James Bond. Yeah,
Nicole Keating 12:37
that was the one you that was the one you chose.
Ansel Burch 12:40
I mean, it's a good choice.
Ben Silverio 12:41
Oh, my god. I can't wait for the last idea. Definitely among his Yeah, I haven't seen it yet. This comes out glass on noon will have been on Netflix already.
Nicole Keating 12:49
Yes. So we'll have seen it in the future.
Ansel Burch 12:51
Yeah, I hope you having a good time on February 6.
Nicole Keating 12:56
That'll be that'll be when this airs. We do a certain type of time travel every time we record.
Ben Silverio 13:01
That that's the that's the secret of Time 2 Party. We time travel when we record these
Ansel Burch 13:05
Time traveling to your earbuds, oh! Put that on a t-shirt.
Ben Silverio 13:08
because as a teacher already knows, Ansel is a time travel. Yeah,
Ansel Burch 13:13
that's been established. Yes. Well known.
Ben Silverio 13:15
It's canon.
Nicole Keating 13:17
It has to be one of us.
Ben Silverio 13:18
It's definitely not me. Because if I time traveled, it wouldn't end well.
Nicole Keating 13:25
Yeah,
Ansel Burch 13:26
I mean if you came from there to here, you
Ben Silverio 13:28
know, yeah, that would be fun. That case it probably would be okay.
Ansel Burch 13:31
Yeah.
Nicole Keating 13:33
sore. You mean like came from the past to here? Yeah, okay. Okay. Yeah.
Ansel Burch 13:38
Because it's a lot harder for him to go the other direction.
Nicole Keating 13:40
The other direction will be kind of hard no matter what.
Ansel Burch 13:42
Although, do you remember?
Nicole Keating 13:45
Depends on how far back you go.
Ansel Burch 13:45
what was that TV show where the okay. I'm not gonna get this reference. There was a TV show, okay. Where they addressed this very thing. There was a time travel show.
Ben Silverio 13:55
Timeless.
Ansel Burch 13:55
Yes. One of the Yes. One of the time travel. One of the time travelers was a black guy. And he was like, No.
Ben Silverio 14:03
I love that show for that reason.
Ansel Burch 14:04
Yeah. And but he was like, good at blending in because nobody paid any attention to him.
Ben Silverio 14:09
Yeah.
Ansel Burch 14:09
Which is fucked up. But also what a superpower.
Nicole Keating 14:13
I also watched that show. That was a good one. I'm a sucker for time travel as you as I am here.
Ansel Burch 14:20
Did any of you guys watch the other show? He w... Well, he's been on a lot of shows. But what was the one where he was at? He was like a sign of an r&d Scientist at a company that made all sorts of like, weird innovations. Better Off Ted.
Ben Silverio 14:36
Oh,
Nicole Keating 14:38
Oh, no, I've heard very good things about that show.
Ansel Burch 14:39
Yeah, that movie was that show was amazing. Yeah, two good things. I've heard good things. He plays an incredible character on that. Check it out. Yeah, that sounds fun, including one where they they again, address racism in tech, where the like, motion sensors won't recognize black people. And so like rather than fix it, they assign him a white guy to follow him around
Nicole Keating 15:08
I mean, tha'ts hilarious, right?
Ben Silverio 15:13
Yes. Just come to the office and claim your white guy for the day.
Ansel Burch 15:15
Yeah, exactly.
Nicole Keating 15:16
Here's your chaperone, your white chaperone. Oh you liked that one. That's a hearty laugh
Ben Silverio 15:30
Party people there you have it. You have you're now equipped with a number of rules to take you back to a Kid in King Arthur's Court. Yeah, to take you back to 1995.
